Edwina Sandel Milam, 90, departed this
world for greener pastures Thursday, December 28, 2000. Mrs. Milam was
born October 22, 1910 in Walker County, Texas to T.H. and Jessie Simms
Sandel. She graduated from Sam Houston State Teachers College in 1927
and received her Masters of Education from the University of Houston
in 1959.
She was joined in holy matrimony August 15, 1935 to Archie Robert
Milam. In 1947, they made Sugar Land their home.
Mrs. Milam retired from Fort Bend ISD after 35 years where she was
the Supervisor for Elementary Math and Science. During her years of
administration and teaching, she touched the hearts and lives of many
around her.
She was also active in many professional, civic, and religious
organizations. Despite these numerous activities, her favorite
pastimes were those spent with her family.
A recognized 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Edwina
was the past Worthy Matron of the Rosenberg Chapter #429, and the
Sugar Land Chapter #1107.
She is preceded in death by much of her family including her
husband Archie, four sisters and 8 brothers. She is survived by a
daughter Marilyn Rawson of Richmond, a son Archie Robert Milam and
wife Patricia of Angleton, a granddaughter Reagan Meredith Walters and
husband Brian of Sugar Land, two grandsons Alan and Adam Milam also of
Angleton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 30 at
the First United Methodist Church in Sugar Land with burial following
at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to
the First United Methodist Church in Sugar Land or the charity of your
choice.
