Michael Francis Jones


Michael Francis Jones of Missouri City, Texas died on Monday, September 15, 2003 after a long illness. He was born in London, England September 9, 1929; was a graduate of Ratcliffe College and received his B.Sc. from Guys Teaching Hospital in London, England. He served as a Lieutenant in the Devon Infantry Regiment until 1953. He then joined the firm of Chr. Salvesen Ltd. of Leith, Scotland; trained as an A.S.D.I.C. Operator and sailed with the Whaling Industry shipping fleet to the Antarctic. After coming to the U.S. in 1958, he had a successful career in Sales Management in New York City. He joined the Chemical Engineering firm of Crawford & Russell in Stamford, Connecticut in 1965, later transferring to Houston, Texas in 1979. Mr. Jones was a Director of Procurement for John Brown International Construction Co. Ltd. in Houston when he retired in 1993 after 27 years with the company.

Mr. Jones was a great outdoorsman, hunting in the Northern Transvaal in South Africa while working overseas and enjoying many hunting trips in West Texas. He fished North of Churchill in Canada, as well as in South Texas' Laguna Madre and brought home many trophies. He had a tremendous zest for life and made lifelong friends wherever he went. His great sense of humor and his positive attitude to life will be missed by everyone.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Christiane; daughter, Claudine and son-in-law Robert Rafferty and their children Evan and Deirdre of Ballston Lake, New York; daughter Michele and son-in-law Robert Jones and their daughters Danielle and Kendra of Madison, Connecticut; sister Margaret and brother-in-law Brooke Carroll of Arizona; sister-in-law Nicole Marcelin of Lyon, France and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nephews and a grand niece in California and France.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Contact the funeral home for information. The family requests that in lieu of the usual memorials, that a donation be made in Mr. Jones' honor to the American Cancer Society, Greater Houston Area, PO Box 570127, Houston, TX 77257.
