Lara Elise Horton Wiedendeld

Our beloved Lara Elise Horton Wiedenfeld returned to God on Thursday, September 18, 2003. Lara leaves behind her devoted husband and soul mate, Phillip Wiedenfeld, whom she married July 13, 2002.

Born in Jacksonville, Florida on January 11, 1977, she is survived by her loving parents, Pam and Jerry Hurst and Jim and Alyson Horton. She will be forever remembered by her 5 siblings and their families: sister Melinda and her husband James; brother, Joel; brother, Nathan and his wife, Carol; sister, Erica, and her husband Mike, and their children, Holly and Hannah; and sister Susan. Also surviving Lara are many aunts, uncles, cousins as well as her in-laws, the Wiedenfeld family.

After spending her early childhood years in Jacksonville, Florida, Lara moved to Missouri City, Texas in 1987. Upon graduation from Dulles High School in 1995, she attended Texas A&M University, where she met her husband, Phillip, and followed her passion for teaching. She graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education in December, 1999.

Lara moved to Sugar Land, Texas after graduating from A&M, and immediately began teaching at Highlands Elementary and leading middle school youth at Southminster Presbyterian Church. The hills and clear waters of Austin, TX beckoned Lara to make it her home in 2001. She loved her work teaching 4th grade at Fern Bluff Elementary in the suburb of Round Rock. Lara was also an active member of Hope Presbyterian Church, where she was an advisor of the Jr. High Youth Group.

Lara loved children and believed in their futures from both a scholastic and spiritual perspective. In honor of her life, donations may be made to "Lara’s Legacy", 2310 Brightwater Drive, Missouri City, Texas 77459. All funds will enable children to attend camp or participate in mission trips.

A funeral service to celebrate Lara's life will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, September 24 at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 2310 Brightwater Drive, Missouri City, Texas. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Earthman Funeral Directors, 12555 South Kirkwood, Stafford, TX.
