Born
Rebecca Ray (Sam) McKinney in Waco, Texas she was the daughter
of Mary Elizabeth McKinney and the late Joe McKinney of
Robinson.
After being the 4th, of eventually 5 girls,
born to the McKinneys, Rebecca was given the name "Sam" by her
father.
As a young adult Sam moved to Austin, where
she worked for Armstrong-McCall. She then became a beauty
consultant for Gerda Spillman. Cosmetics of Switzerland and
traveled there to learn the products and processes of the
company. She returned to Austin and became a partner in King
Realty.
Years later, after a visit to Sugar Land, Sam
moved to nearby Meadows Place and continued her interest in real
estate. For the past nine years she has been co-owner of
Metropolitan Mortgage Consultants along with friend and business
partner, Ms. Lonnie Pat Holloway.
Sam was a Committee Member of the Austin
Rodeo Association and currently served as treasurer of the
Houston Association of Professional Mortgage Women. She was a
great Houston Texan's Football fan and a faithful inaugural
season ticket-holder. As an avocation Sam loved to decorate her
home and backyard in Meadows Place.
Sam took pride in her mortgage company and
was especially happy when she could assist a young person with a
first home purchase. She loved fashionable clothes, shoes, and
accessories but it was her mild manners, kind heart, and
lady-like personality that made her such a beautiful person.
During her 10 month illness with cancer, she
touched the hearts of many at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Her
family is grateful for the support, kindness and professionalism
of the team who cared for her. Her sister, Lea McKinney, moved
to Meadows Place to be with Sam.
Sam King is survived by her son, Justin Lee
McDaniel of Austin, her mother, Mary Elizabeth McKinney, and her
sisters Peggy Lassetter, Lea McKinney of Waco, Nancy Whetstone
and husband, Steve, of Sugar Land, and Debby Moody and husband,
Joe, of Missouri City. She is alos survived by many nephews,
nieces, cousins, friends, and her dear friends, Debbie Lynn and
Max.
An Irish Wake celebrating her life was held
Saturday, October 18 at her home. A memorial service will be
held November 8, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church,
Hwy. 77 and Stegall, Robinson, Texas, just blocks from her
childhood home.
