George Ray Ellis

Former Fort Bend County resident George Ray Ellis died on Friday, April 23, 2010 at his home in Coldspring, TX after a long battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 67.

He was born to John Garton Ellis and Emma Louise Ellis on December 26, 1942, in Richmond, Indiana. He graduated from Richmond (Indiana) High School in 1961.

George was a veteran having served in the US Army in Viet Nam.

Before retiring from the US Postal Service as a mail carrier in Sugar Land, TX in 2004, he delivered mail in the New Territory area. He also worked for A&P Grocery in Richmond, IN and Eaton, OH and Safeway in Houston and Rosenberg, TX.

Preceding him in death are his parents and siblings John Garton Ellis II, Una V Ziegler, Vaughn Herbert Ellis, Vern Herschel Ellis, Lou Ann Lair and Janet Kay Hathaway.

George Ray Ellis is survived by his wife Michaela Ann (Mercurio) whom he married on October 16, 1967; daughter Ann Louise (Ellis) Keener also of Coldspring, TX; step-children James Michael Reed of Enterprise, AL and Renee (Reed) Matetzschk of Sugar Land, TX; siblings Mary Alice Ellis, Paul Duane Ellis, Jane Johnson and Cecelia Spicer of Richmond, IN, Omar Frank Ellis of Nathalie, VA and William Robert Ellis of Crawfordsville, IN; two grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Burial arrangements were made through Pace-Stancil Funeral Home with interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Coldspring, TX on April 25, 2010.
