Robert Roy “Bob” Versen

Robert Roy “Bob” Versen of Sugar Land, Texas passed away November 7, 2010 at age 77. He was born in East St.Louis, IL to parents, Leo William and Clara Marie Versen. Bob attended East St. Louis High School, attained a BA in Chemistry and Math from Carthage College, was inducted into the Carthage College Hall of Fame in 1990 and completed Master Studies in Chemistry at University of Wisconsin at Madison. From an early age he earned recognition for achievements in football, track and baseball, was an Eagle Scout and earned the Silver Beaver Award with Boy Scouts of America. He served as esteemed leader of Salisbury Elks Lodge #699 and was a member of Hole in One Club 1980. As a research chemist at Monsanto he developed 5 patents during his employment. Bob retired from National Starch & Chemical Co. in 1994. He is predeceased by his parents Leo and Clara Versen, and brothers Herbert and Walter Versen, and survived by his wife Janis Versen, sons Bill Versen(Paula) of Dayton, OH and Richard Versen(Margie) of Highlands Ranch, CO, and daughter Cathy King(Doug) of Sugar Land, and brother Alan Versen, West Los Angeles, CA. Grandchildren living coast to coast are Erik Versen, Brett Versen, Ryan Versen, Katelyn Versen, Katie Ostlund(Jason), Tyler Doyle, KyleVersen(Stefanie), Mark Versen(Jessica), Spencer Doyle, and Allison King. Great-grandchildren are Carter Ostlund and Braelyn Versen. Bob was a faithful servant of God, devoted Husband and Father, cherished Grandfather with patience, wit, humor, wisdom and love to share. His sparkling eyes and wonderful smile will surely shine in our hearts forever. A visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 11 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Sugar Land Mortuary, a service on Friday, Nov. 12 at 11:00 AM at New Hope Lutheran Church, with interment to follow at Morton Cemetery in Richmond, TX. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to New Hope Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
