Hurricane Madness

Welcome to my first edition of, “what everyone is probably talking about”, I hope you will enjoy it. We have a hurricane right around the corner, which I know everyone is talking about, so it is a pretty safe bet for me. Seems like we are in the same situation we were before, where is it going to hit, how fast is it going, how do we prepare? All very valid questions, but it is quite apparent that no one knows the answers to these questions. A solution for all of us in this time of confusion at nature’s wonders is to just head up north for a few weeks, stay away from the coast line.

I know everyone attacks the weather people for not giving an accurate weather forecast, but we should all by now realize that they have not got it all quite figured out yet. They are working out a few kinks in their weather predictor machine. I understand that we have all had those days when we head out to the beach with our t owels and sandwiches and beach attire only to arrive home dripping wet with soggy sandwiches and cold beach attire. We cannot always rely on the weather for our family fun though, because obviously if you make that trip out to the beach on a bad day, you may end up with a very annoyed family and not quite the quality time you intended.

Bowling allies are a great place to go for the next few weeks, or at least until the weather people figure out what is going on. They are structurally sound, don’t depend on the weather, and as long as you call ahead and have friends, you can expect to have a great day.

There have been many movies dedicated to family vacations and what can go wrong with them, but let’s be honest, sometimes our parents can pick out cool things to do. We complain about long drives and boring car trips, but we all know that there was a fifty percent chance we may not have found much to do that day anyways.

Preparation for hurricanes and bad weather is always fun, because of all the snacks you can buy “just in case”. I always pick out my favorites, such as those delicious hundred calorie packs and sneak them out of our storm preparation box within a week of buying them.

The most important thing in our part of the world right now, that most people pay attention to, is the current hurricane tracking and the most annoying thing is the storm alerts, because they always interrupt our favorite television programming at the best part of the show. I appreciate the weather people giving us a heads up so we can buy delicious snacks, but storms don’t mean much to my generation when there’s no school, and all it can do is get in the way of our summer plans.

I hope you will all discuss storm preparedness at the dinner table tonight, but don’t turn to the weather people for advice, because it is probably wrong.
