Representatives of the Chelsea Harbour subdivision took time last week to give Precinct 4 Commissioner James Patterson a big pat on the back for hosting a meeting between the homeowners association and the developers of an apartment complex.
The homeowners voiced fears that the increase in size of the complex would add additional traffic and crime issues to the neighborhood.
Patterson told them that the county had very little control over granting or not granting a plat and he would do what he could to open communications.
He did and they were quite pleased.
Every once in a while one of the public officials does something to make constituents happy.
Too often we don’t hear about it. This time we did.
The Fourth of July
You’ve heard it once a year for as long as you can remember—if you use fireworks be cautious. This year is no exception. The best plan is to go to one or more of the many safe fireworks venues offered by the cities or various organizations.
If you do live in a rural, unregulated area and choose to light those sparklers or pop the firecrackers, remember that despite recent rains the underlying ground is dry.
And, please, please watch the little ones. They have no concept of fear.
Have a safe and happy Fourth of July. You have been warned once again.
Voting machines
The county will not be getting the optical scanners for the forthcoming election. Officials had hoped to add the scanners to give voters a choice as to using the new eSlate machines or opting for a paper ballot.
Most people would have, in my opinion, gone for the tried and true paper ballot, but that option won’t be there because of a delay in state approval.
So, if you plan to vote in the presidential election in November, it might behoove you to familiarize yourself with the eSlate machines.
