MEN IN BLACK: Blu-ray - Sony

In the 1950s a super-secret government agency was formed to monitor and police the activities of extraterrestrial aliens on the planet Earth. Some 40 years later a founding father of the agency, Agent Kay (Tommy Lee Jones), finds himself with a new smart-mouthed partner fresh from the NYPD who is soon dubbed Agent Jay (Will Smith). Their first mission is to save the Earth from destruction by a giant insectlike alien (Vincent D’Onfrio) that, incidentally, drives an exterminator’s truck.

DOCTOR WHO: Warriors of the Deep - BBC

This is a continuation of the “Silurian” stories that captivated audiences of the Doctor Who series early on. The intrepid doctor negotiates with the Silurians to keep them from launching nuclear missiles, while holding at bay the fearsome Myrka, a sea monster. This is one of the more fascinating Peter Davisson stories.

PREHISTORIC EARTH - BBC

High-tech animatronics and lavish computer graphic help take viewers on a journey through the sometimes strange but always fascinating world of prehistoric Earth. This collection from the BBC’s hit Walking Earth will both fascinate and captivate all ages of audience.

MY BOYS: Season One - Sony

My Boys is a fresh, contemporary comedy set in Chicago, about friends helping friends through the dating game and life’s challenges. In the cliffhanger at the end of the first season, PJ was hopping on a plane with her friend Stephanie (Stewart) for a double-date trip to Rome. PJ invited some potential companions on this trip and just before take-off, she receives a message that her date is waiting for her in first class. Her mystery companion could be one of three guys: globe-trotting reporter Thorn Packer (Jeremy Sisto); botanist Evan (Michael Landes); or Cubs player Mitt Dougan (Travis Schuldt). It could even be one of her close male friends, such as Bobby (Howard) or Brendan (Scott), given her previous – albeit brief – romantic entanglements with each of them. Once the mystery is solved, PJ and her date join Stephanie and her boyfriend for what they hope will be a fun-filled excursion through Rome. Whether the fun times will continue when they return to U.S. shores remains to be seen.

BATMAN: Blu-ray - Fox

Tim Burton’s Batman is a Gothic, Wagnerian treatment of the Batman mythos that explains the origins of Batman (Michael Keaton) and his nemesis, the maniacal Joker (a ripe Jack Nicholson). Gotham City is a sunless, ominous haven for criminals, held in the corrupt grip of crime boss Carl Grissom (the ever-magnetic Jack Palance), and terrorized by a sadistic vandal and murderer known as The Joker. But it isn’t long before a dark, mysterious caped crusader, who goes by the name of Batman, is on their trail and trying to thwart their evil doings. In this darkly entertaining retelling of the Marvel comic classic, ace photojournalist Vicki Vale is also on the trail--she wants to find out who Batman really is.

CHAOS THEORY - Warner

Frank Allen (Ryan Reynolds), celebrated author of the bestseller The Five Minute Efficiency Trainer, has perfected the art of living via a foolproof system of timetables and index cards. In fact, his daily “to do” lists are legendary. A man known for playing it safe, Frank doesn’t believe in spontaneity. Every choice he makes is deliberate––designed to contribute to a well-ordered, predictable life. But life, as he soon learns, never adheres to a strict schedule. Frank’s wife, Susan (Emily Mortimer), and seven-year-old daughter, Jesse (Matreya Fedor), find his obsession charming in small doses, but as a steady diet it can be very frustrating. One morning, Susan attempts to loosen her husband’s scheduling stranglehold by adding ten minutes to his day. But, by setting the clock backward instead of forward, she inadvertently unleashes a series of mishaps that turn his meticulously ordered life upside down. A belligerent ferryman, a ruthless seductress, a reluctant mother-to-be and the secret amor of his best friend, Buddy (Stuart Townsend), combine to send his life into complete chaos. As his life unravels in several directions simultaneously, however, a stunning family revelation forces Frank to look fate squarely in the eye.

DRILLBIT TAYLOR - Paramount

Drillbit Taylor tells the story of three nerdy adolescents who, on their very first day of high school, find themselves the target of a merciless, near psychotic bully. The friends band together and pool their funds to hire a personal bodyguard, Drillbit Taylor (Owen Wilson). Taylor, a homeless beach bum and AWOL army soldier, plans to con the kids just long enough to pull together the money needed to amscray off to Canada. A momentary flash of a conscience and a growing crush on a teacher at the boys’ high school, however, compels Drillbit to stick around, do the right thing, and ultimately save the day.

THE CARMEN MIRANDA COLLECTION - Fox

I wasn’t expecting this to be such a wonderful surprise, but Fox hit a home run with The Carmen Miranda Collection! This set contains Doll Face, Greenwich Village, If I’m Lucky, Something for the Boys, and The Gang’s All Here. The most important fact about this set is that these movies were never relased on VHS and Doll Face is finally being given a proper performance platform. This is a must own for fans of Carmen Miranda!
