In Newsradio, Dave Foley stars as Dave Nelson, a farm-fresh
Wisconsinite who leaves the land of cheese for the Big
Apple. He lands a new job as news director at an all news
radio station run by meddling owner Jimmy James (Stephen
Root). Vicki Lewis plays a flighty, hyper/hip character who
dresses like Madonna. Neurotic Matthew (Andy Dick) obsesses
about life in every episode. Jon Lovitz joins the cast this
season as Max Louis after the unexpected death of Bill
McNeal (Phil Hartman). The ensemble cast is incredible and a
joy to watch. Picture and sound are outstanding. Newsradio
is a must own for any fan of raw comedy.
THE JEFFERSONS: Season Six - Sony
The Jeffersons was a breakthrough series
that was the first show to feature a well to do African
American family living in luxury. In the sixth season, the
shor remained fresh due to the wit of the series developer
Norman Lear. Sherman Hemsley shines as George Jefferson and
Isabel Sanford stars as his wife Louise. Marla Gibbs is
side-splitting hilarious as their wise cracking maid,
Florence. This three disc set contains all 24 episodes in
full screen color.
GANDI: Anniversary Edition - Sony
Richard Attenborough’s award-winning epic
recounts the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi. In South
Africa, a young Indian lawyer is booted off a train for
refusing to ride second-class. Fed up with the unjust
political system, he joins the Indian Congress Party, which
encourages social change through passive resistance. When
his “subversive” activities land him in jail, masses of
low-skilled workers strike to support his non-violent yet
revolutionary position. Back in India, Gandhi renounces the
Western way of life and struggles to organize Indian labor
against British colonialism. A strike costs many British
soldiers their lives, so the crown responds by slaughtering
1,500 Indians. Enraged, the ascetic, spiritual leader
continues to preach pacifism until he has lead India out
from under the tyranny of British imperialism. This critical
masterpiece was the winner of the coveted Best Picture
Oscar, and justifiably so. This is one of the best pictures
of the decade and is a must own for any film collector.
SEVENTH HEAVEN: Season Four - Paramount
The heartwarming television dramedy 7th
Heaven blends sometimes-outlandishly comic situations with
dramatic plotlines about serious social issues into a
positive affirmation of family values and Christian
morality. Produced by Aaron Spelling, the series centers
around an all-American minister’s family headed by Reverend
Eric Camden (Stephen Collins) and his stay-at-home wife,
Annie (Catherine Hicks), as they struggle with the daily
stresses and joys of parenting. Meanwhile, the Camdens’ five
children--oldest son Matt (Barry Watson), athletic good girl
Mary (Jessica Biel), boy-crazy Lucy (Beverley Mitchell),
preteen Simon (David Gallagher), and precocious
grade-schooler Ruthie (Mackenzie Rosman)--navigate through
the trials and tribulations of growing up with wholesome
aplomb. This collection presents all 22 episodes of the
family drama’s fourth season, which includes guest
appearances by Lance Bass, Ed Begley Jr., Peter Graves, John
Salley, Kurt Rambis, and A.C. Green.
CHILDREN OF MEN - Universal
Children of Men works on every level: as
a violent chase thriller, a fantastical cautionary tale, and
a sophisticated human drama about societies struggling to
live. This taut and thought-provoking tale may not have the
showy special effects normally found in movies of this
genre, but you won’t care one bit after the story kicks in,
about a dystopic future where women can no longer conceive
and hope lies within one woman who holds the key to
humanity’s survival. It will have you riveted. Be sure to
check this out.
PETER PAN: Platinum Edition - Disney
