Lincoln-Day Dinner still simmering
Word has it that the Lincoln-Day Dinner
is still simmering and nothing has been resolved. Those in
the know say they fear the controversy over who “owns”
rights to the dinner will further divide the Republican
Party in Fort Bend and create a divide that will be hard to
overcome.
If you were somewhere off the planet over
the last few weeks, the controversy began when Fort Bend
Republican Party Chairman Gary Gillen formed a Political
Action Committee and basically took control of the yearly
dinner, which is the party’s most popular and most
profitable fundraiser. Gary says he did it because he had to
move forward and make arrangements for the dinner which
can’t be planned overnight. He had to reserve the location
etc.
A growing segment of the local
Republicans are crying foul and believe Gillen is taking
control of the project because he is ticked about being shot
out of the saddle when that element of the party changed the
by-laws and basically made Gillen’s Chairmanship without
responsibilities or teeth.
Who wouldn’t be ticked, for goodness sakes
Some elected officials are calling Gillen
to give back the dinner. Some are asking him to extend a
white flag and work in a spirit of cooperation.
At press time, a meeting was still
scheduled for Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rosenberg
courthouse annex so all the players can lay their cards on
the table.
Since there is no resolution as of late,
all we can do is wait, watch and pass the popcorn bowl.
Blogging with Tom
For those who haven’t heard, former Sugar
Land resident and District 22 Congressman Tom DeLay now has
a blog-site and is busy keeping his former constituents
entertained. Go check it out:
http://www.tomdelay.com/
The website says by joining GAIN
(Grassroots Action and Information Center) you can
communicate with Tom DeLay.
And without any cost, (does this sound
like late night TV “paid programming?”) you can get all of
the following benefits: You receive weekly GAIN
notifications and alerts of all the events, and volunteer
opportunities available to you; You receive weekly GAIN
notifications of insider political information on the 110th
Congress, updates on the ways of combating the plans of the
radical left and their associates in the left wing media
elite; You participate in monthly online strategy sessions
with Tom DeLay and other members of the GAIN Network
Oh boy, I can hardly wait. Seriously
though, when you read all the horrors that this new
organization is going to stamp out, be ready for the jolt.
It actually sounds like government propaganda of a Third
Reich type mentality.
Don’t take my word for it... check it
out.
