I’ve had enough.....I’ve seen
Democratic signs around town asking, “Had Enough?” Well, I
have. I’ve certainly had enough on the national level and
some of it is even creeping into the local politics.
I’m not even going to vote for her
once.....I really hate to disparage a woman in politics
because I don’t think we have enough women. If we did, maybe
this country would be better-run. But Shelley Sukula-Gibbs
is running the silliest campaign, both for the special
election and as a write-in.
Plus, I think she is too radical. She has
tried to capitalize on the Christian Coalition as her base
and talk up immigrant reform as her cause celeb prompting
several of her fellow city council members to walk out on
her one fine day. She has urged voters to vote for her
twice; once in the special election and once in a write-in.
I’m not voting for her at all.
Lampson is not the liberal he’s been
painted.....Nick Lampson has received the endorsement of
many groups who are considered conservative. Groups such as
the Houston Assn. of Realtors, several police organizations.
etc.
Yep, I’m voting for Nick and I would vote
for him twice if I could. I think you should too.
And on another mission.....If you are
still mad that Bud Childers beat Nina Schaefer for judge,
you have a chance to get your revenge. I’m supporting
Democratic Rudy Velasquez, a local man born, raised, and
educated in Fort Bend until he went off to university and
got a law degree. Velasquez worked in the Fort Bend DA’s
office and is now the senior Asst. City Attorney for Houston
for the past 12 years. He’s been a sole practitioner also,
so has a wide range of legal experience. He’s a great guy,
family man and hard worker.
Marsha has been vindicated (sort
of)......When Marsha Gaines was County Tax Assessor, she
used to get up in commissioner’s court almost weekly and
complain about HR head Tom Anderson. She pointed out that he
had 100% turnover with his own employees in the HR
department.
A little background here. When he was
hired, he was paid substantially more than the previous
female head of HR. When we complained, we were told he had a
law degree (not necessary for the job) and that he would be
taking over “risk management.” That happened for about 4
weeks when other employees in risk management threatened to
quit. That was taken away from him, but he did not have a
decrease in salary. I was also told he was a “Republican
precinct chair for many years in Pecan Grove and hence, “our
kind!”
So late last week, he “resigned.” Sure.
Begala gala.....I’ve never heard Paul
Begala give a whole speech before. Usually I would see him
on “Crossfire” where the participants banter back and forth.
Or on some other “talking heads” show which has a debate
format. But last Friday, he was here and spoke at a
Democratic fundraiser and he was “Fabulous!” His speech even
made some of us old hard-cases tear up. Plus he does a drop
dead imitation of Bill Clinton, for whom he helped to get
elected.
Begala said he learned all the important
things in life and politics over a nail keg at Courts
Hardware where he was employed while a student at Dulles. He
has gone on to bigger things and is now a well-known author
and television pundit.
It was a great speech! Supposedly, the
Democrats raised about $20,000.
Voting...We are being urged to vote
early to avoid long waits at the polls on November 7. Early
voting has already started.
But this flies in the face of my scheme
to wait until the last minute and vote for the candidate who
is ahead of the three (Kinky, Bell, and Grandma) and has the
best chance of beating Gov. Good Hair. So take your choice.
Vote early or subscribe to the Bev Carter School of
Political Prognostication.
You think it just can’t get any worse for
the Republicans.....And it does. In addition to all the
bad publicity about Republican congressman, even their
singers are making the headlines. Sara Evans, Tom DeLay’ s
candidate for “Dancing with the Stars” (he sent out an email
urging us to vote for her. Cross my heart he did.) quit over
either her husbands extra-martial affair or hers, according
to which tabloid you believe.
I got an email from someone from another
state wanting to know if Tom really did say that some people
would still lay down on the train tracks for him.
Regrettably I had to tell them it was true as Tom appeared
in person on a television newscast saying that. Are you
track layers nuts?!
I give up.....I can not wax
eloquently anymore this week. I have that bug going around
and even my own column is making me sick!
