Rossini Opera Collection - Image
Three excellent productions of some of
Rossini’s best operas are collected here: director Dario
Fo’s innovative staging of IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA with the
Netherlands Opera; the Vienna Philharmonic’s LA CENERENTOLA
with Francisco Araiza and Ann Murray; and an impressive New
York Metropolitan Opera performance of SEMIRAMIDE, directed
by John Copley and starring Marilyn Horne and June Anderson.
Image has done an outstanding job compiling this collection
for fans of this genre. For any true fan of opera, this set
is not to be missed.
MASH: Season 10 - Fox
Robert Altman’s film was brought to the
small screen in 1972, and forever changed the face of
television. Successfully combining both drama and comedy
into a half-hour format, the show took place in the volatile
setting of a military hospital just outside Seoul during the
Korean War. With an extensive ensemble cast and finely-drawn
characters, the show functioned as political satire and
sitcom, while achieving a level of very humane drama rarely
seen on TV, with ever-evolving characters who learn from
their mistakes and are rarely, if ever, reduced to “types.”
MASH is an endearing series that should
be in every home, even if you aren’t a fan of comedy.
I Love Lucy: Season 6 - Paramount
A television show like “I Love Lucy” does
not really need an introduction. Who doesn’t know about the
redhead with the famous plea, “Ricky, why can’t I be in the
show?” And who isn’t familiar with Ricky’s exasperated “Ai-yi-yi!?”
Since 1951, the Ricardos have been a staple of American
television, and the show is one of the few genuine gems of
the medium. It’s “I Love Lucy’s” sixth hilarious season, as
Lucy manages to find trouble all over the world. This set
includes all original season six episodes, fully restored
and remastered. This is arguably the best television show of
all time that set the standard for comedic television. A
must for all!
Patton - Fox
Best picture Academy Award winner in 1971, Patton is the
story of America’s greatest military leader during his
campaigns throughout Africa, Italy, France and Germany
during World War II. The late George C. Scott plays the role
of General George Patton to perfection, a role he later won
the best actor Academy Award for, but turned down the honor
because he felt it was wrong to judge one actor’s
performance over another’s. This DVD is masterfully
presented and would make an excellent addition to your
collection.
