Bev's Burner
Some's Hot, Some's Not

The race to replace......The rules concerning the procedure to replace Tom DeLayís name on the ballot for November have been touted in several media. It involves all of the precinct chairs in each county in CD22 choosing one of their own from each county who will then meet and decide the name to put forth.

In Fort Bend, Precinct Chair Teresa Raia is openly campaigning for the spot as the elector. She is calling each precinct chair asking for their support.

According to reports, Raia at first told some precinct chairs that she would offer State Representative Charlie Howardís name. Later, she has said she hasnít decided who to support.

But the name that keeps popping up as an elector is Pat Hebert. Pat has certainly established her bona-fides as a Republican in many capacities also, serving as president of the Republican Women, working for candidates, and other duties too numerous to mention. Suffice it to say, she has just as many credentials to represent Fort Bend County as our elector than any other name mentioned.

I asked Pat who she would support and she said she would support the person that a majority of precinct chairs told her they wanted to be on the ballot. She said that she was in favor of an open meeting to decide who the precinct chairs wanted and she also favored an open meeting between the four electors from the counties so there could be no accusations of backroom politics.

I posed these same questions to Teresa Raia in an email earlier this week and so far have received no answer.

Iíll let you know her response if she ever gets back to me.

FYI: Former (as of May 1) Republican County Chairman Eric Thode is sending out a card to every Republican voter who has voted in the last few primaries listing all the contenders for the ballot position. He is asking recipients to vote and return it to the Republicans. I think that is a very fair way to do it.

You know, if Tom DeLay was worried about losing to Nick Lampson before, his actions in this political imbroglio has only helped Lampsonís campaign. With the Republicans fighting among themselves, disgust with the whole thing is sure to follow.

And now, the school board......For once, voters seem to be interested in the school board. Iíve been to a couple of candidate forums which are more well-attended than in recent years. And there are more forums. In fact, candidate Rodrigo Carreon sent me a list of the forums which conflict with several other community meetings, including one that occurred on the same night as a school board meeting. Carreon asks if the board candidateís are being overworked.

Nasty, nasty, nasty.....I donít know about overworking, but I do know it is getting dirty. Both Liz Mitton and Steve Dieu sent out email blasts which contained not only wrong information about Steve Smelley, but were downright lies that could have so easily been checked out.

When I questioned Bert Levine, who is working for Dieu, about why he would send out an email so full of misinformation, his excuse was that he picked up the information from a ďblogĒ at a certain website. Yet when I checked the website, I didnít see that at all. I asked Bert if he thought it was ethical to send out such blatant lies gleaned from a blog without checking his facts first and under the name of the candidate he was representing. His response? ďYouíve got a point.Ē Yeah, Bert, and it matches your head!

I didnít even ask Liz Mitton because I didnít want to hear her tap dance around another of her dirty political tricks. Her head isnít pointy: sheís just mean.

When she used to operate her blog site, Liz spent an inordinate amount of time criticizing me, so donít go feeling sorry for her. Oh, she sounds good, but she is poison and can spin school district news to make her favorites seem so innocuous. You could always tell who was in Rickertís gun sights by reading Mittonís blog.

I donít know who mentors who--Liz Mitton or Lisa Rickert, but Liz has never found any of Rickertís trainwrecks wrong.

Campaign reports......Two candidates, Steve Dieu and James Walker, have not filed their contribution and expense reports timely. Dieu said he was very busy and used his kidsí activities as an excuse. Walker at least had the sense to offer no excuse, but did admit he was an accountant, an even more glaring omission when discussing C & Eís.

Walker probably had the better excuse since he is an accountant, and we know how busy they have been this April.

Theyíre doing a lot of talking otherwise.....I sent out a questionnaire to the school board candidates in FBISD and I still have not received answers from Wayne Howard or James Walker. Iím giving them until next week then Iím running the results sans their answers.

And now for something completely different.....You may have read what Iíve had to say before about the valet service at Sweetwater Country Club. In addition to parking your car so you donít have to walk up that hill, they will wash it while you are dining. And at $15 bucks a pop, that is about the going rate at the local car washes if you get the premium package which is what you get a Sweetwater.

Why, heck, sometimes I go to some civic or charity luncheons at Sweetwater just to get my car washed (Itís certainly not the food!).

Anyway, about two months ago I lost my second set of car keys with that little clicker on it that unlocks your door. You have to replace them from the car dealership and they are kinda expensive.

I looked high and low for the keys, including the car and every store I had shopped at in the past year. I had left my keys at a store before and didnít notice until later because I had two sets and was able to get in my car without noticing the other set was missing.

So the other day, I went to Sweetwater and had my car washed. Itís a miracle! When I got in my car, my other set of keys was laying on the console. Remember, I had searched my car at least twice for the missing keys. Are those guys good, or what?
