Voters will have to put up with a few more weeks of
political rhetoric and probably a few shenanigans because of
the forthcoming run-off elections on several key county
positions. Just when we were about to breathe a sigh of
relief and get a whiff of fresh air from the political
process, the elections produced several run-offs and as the
old saying goes “it ain’t over till the fat lady sings.”
After last Tuesday’s primary election, it was clear that the
old broad didn’t sing the final chorus and there is more to
come. Hope these candidates keep it cool as the weeks
leading up to the primary were somewhat unnerving as fingers
were pointed and things started getting a bit out of
control. Besides we need a reprieve so we can maximize our
energy and endurance for the Nov. General Election.
Wilson overcomes adverse campaign
County Clerk Dianne Wilson, who underwent some serious
public scrutiny and was basically put on the political hot
seat, prevailed at the polls. However, with 70 percent of
the vote, Wilson was still pondering if adverse press and a
concerted effort from supporters of her opponent led people
to vote for a political unknown out of fear that she is
harming citizens by supplying records to the public.
Just as a guess, I’d say “yep.”
Wilson has some detractors and apparently they did the
best they could do to finally bring her down. It wasn’t good
enough. At issue, of course, was the public information
being released to the public on the Internet by Wilson. It
remains to be seen if there will be any changes to this
procedure in the future as a result of the election
disclosures.
