Marshal Matt Dillon is in charge of Dodge
City, a town in the Wild West where people often have no
respect for the law. He deals on a daily basis with the
problems associated with frontier life: cattle rustling,
gunfights, brawls, stand over tactics, and land fraud. Such
situations call for sound judgments and brave actions: of
which Marshal Dillon has plenty. This show is the
quintessential TV Western in every sense of the word.
Spanning 20 years and several spin-off films, this show tops
all of them. James Arness leads an amazing cast each week as
he keeps law in order in Dodge City. The overall stories
were great keeping the true spirit of the West as a priority
with each episode. The secret to the success of this show is
the interaction of the cast. All of the characters are
believable and make you want to be a part of their family.
This show represents the best in classic Westerns. The DVD
set is presented in Full Screen Format with Dolby Surround
Sound. Extras include Commentaries by the cast, Outtakes,
Bloopers and Features on the show. Western Fans should jump
at this set.
THE GREAT RAID: Director’s Cut - Buena
Vista
Set in the Philippines in 1945, THE GREAT
RAID tells the true story of the 6th Ranger Battalion, under
the command of Lieutenant Colonel Henry Mucci (Benjamin
Bratt) who undertakes a daring rescue mission against all
odds. Traveling thirty miles behind enemy lines, the 6th
Ranger Battalion aims to liberate over 500 American
prisoners-of-war from the notorious Cabanatuan Japanese POW
camp in the most audacious rescue ever. This film kept my
interest from start to finish. The story was gripping and
gave insight on a rescue that I knew nothing about. The cast
worked well together with excellent performances throughout.
Dale Dye, former Marine, also starred in this film and was
technical advisor on the set. Director John Dahl did a
superb job of researching the actual events that took place
giving every attention to detail. This shows in the
elaborate sets and his casting choices. As war films go,
this one rates high with me. The DVD is presented in
Widescreen Format with Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround. Extras on
the discs include Commentary tracks, Extended Deleted
Scenes, Making of Feature and a Documentary on Bataan. There
is also a Veterans Remember Featurette, Captain Dale Dye?s
Boot Camp Outtakes and Dedication to the Soldiers of Bataan.
This is a great set to have that really educates as well as
entertains you.
