The Baby

Introducing Mr. & Mrs. Stephen Skinner... Stephen’s mom, Star Reporter Cheryl Skinner, saw her baby take a beautiful bride, Tara, the day following Christmas Day. We, at the Star, remember Stephen as Superman also. It doesn’t seem that it was that long ago! |
Well, it is official. The baby of the Skinner family has grown up. For many of our public officials and most of the newspaper staff, Stephen, our youngest son, was a fixture at the office, governmental meetings, and police squad rooms for most of his life.
When he was born, he interrupted an interview that I was in the midst of. It was a dognapping in Missouri City and I completed the story the following morning. Stephen grew up attending meetings—from school boards to commissioner’s court—and sitting quietly in the police department and sheriff’s department while I read offense reports.
When he was in college, he worked at the Star.
Last Saturday night he and his lovely fiancé tied the knot after a seven year courtship.
So, he is officially a grown, independent, and self-sufficient young man with a lovely devoted bride and a wonderful career.
And, I’m a proud mother who wanted to share this with the many people who still ask about Stephen after watching him grow through the years. I had an assistant DA ask, not too terribly long ago, if Stephen still wore his Superman costume.
Well, I understand that underneath that handsome tuxedo was an official Superman shirt and, of course, the groom’s cake was a Superman emblem.
So, the answer is “yes” he does still wear a Superman costume.
Some things just don’t change.
And, he will always be the baby!
