Woman arrested for robbing elderly women

About 4 p.m. on the afternoon of November 30, Rosenberg police were called to a home in the 1100 block of Walger Avenue after an aggravated robbery of a 78 year old woman was reported. According to Assistant Police Chief Dallis Warren, the victim, a 78 year old woman, was shopping at the .99 cent store on Avenue H in Rosenberg. When she left the store, she was followed by another woman. As the elderly woman got out of her car, she was approached by the suspect who threatened her with a screwdriver and demanded cash.

Warren said the victim complied and handed the tool wielding crook a $20 bill and her coin purse. Fortunately, the victim was able to provide police with good descriptions of both the suspect and her car. The crook was nabbed a short time later near the intersection of Second Street and Avenue D in Rosenberg.

As the investigation unfolded, the victim’s coin purse was recovered from the suspect’s car. Then later while being interviewed at the police station, the female suspect admitted to robbing another elderly woman at the Richmond Walmart the previous week,

The weapon wielding suspect was identified as Maria Cervantes, 51, of Rosenberg. She was arrested for aggravated robbery in Rosenberg and another charge of aggravated robbery out of the City of Richmond is expected to be filed.

According to county records, Cervantes has been in the criminal justice system in Fort Bend County for years.
