On her deathbed, the old woman warns Claire about the cost of interfering with a powerful spirit coming to claim her soul, and when the rest of the family fails to heed these ancient traditions, the dead are called up from their graves for a bloody night of retribution that leaves carnage and monstrous mayhem in its wake! Alex (Heather Graham) finds herself in a court ordered rage-therapy group after a bad breakup with her boyfriend. There she meets Stella (Jennifer Coolidge), the owner of an extermination business who might be killing more than bugs, and Nikki (Amber Heard), a dental technician with the face of an angel and the mind of a sociopath. Together these women form their own ‘silent revolution,’ wreaking havoc on the men of Texas with their own brand of girl justice. Boasting a star-packed cast including Joey Lauren Adams and Matthew Settle, this dark comedy will make you giggle and cheer as the bad boys go down!
CENTURION - Magnolia
Centurion isn't just a rousing adventure, but a return to form for The Descent director Neil Marshall after the disappointing Doomsday. Irish actor Michael Fassbender plays Quintus Dias, a Roman soldier attempting to defend the Empire against Northern England's indigenous Pict population, when they take him captive. Once General Virilus, who inspires fierce devotion in his men, gets wind of the skirmish, he sets out to vanquish opposition leader Gorlacon (Ulrich Thomsen) with the aid of Etain (Olga Kurylenko), a mute tracker. Though his Ninth Legion, which includes Bothos (David Morrissey) and Brick (Liam Cunningham), tracks down Quintus, the Picts slaughter most other comrades and seize Virilus, shifting the battle for conquest into a struggle for survival, a Marshall specialty since Dog Soldiers. Only Arianne (Imogen Poots), a medicine woman who treats Bothos's wounds, arrives as a light in the darkness, holding out the promise of romance should Quintus make it out of Pict territory alive.
THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT - Universal
If the relationships that anchor Lisa Cholodenko's warmly funny films appear unconventional, their problems and their pleasures remain universal. In The Kids Are All Right, she takes on a suburban Los Angeles family with two teens, Joni (Mia Wasikowska) and the unfortunately named Laser (Josh Hutcherson), and two mothers, Nic (Annette Bening) and Jules (Julianne Moore), who conceived via artificial insemination. Now that she's heading off to college, Laser urges 18-year-old Joni to seek out their birth father, who lives in the area. Though she hits it off with Paul (Mark Ruffalo), a motorcycle-riding restaurant owner, Laser has his doubts. After they introduce Paul to their parents, allegiances start to shift. While Nic, a doctor, serves as breadwinner, Jules, a homemaker-turned-landscape artist, provides the nurturing. Paul, on the other hand, lives free from attachments, inciting both curiosity and suspicion.
SALT - PBS
Salt is the story of award-winning and internationally-renowned photographer, Murray Fredericks, on his annual solo pilgrimage to the heart of Lake Eyre in the remote north corner of South Australia. Alone on the most featureless landscape on earth, SALT interweaves Murray's sublime pictures, with innovative time-lapse sequences, and illuminating and exposing video diary excerpts. Stripped back to its essentials, Murray's emotional and mind altering roller-coaster ride is told through a fusion of personally reflective sound bytes and satellite phone conversations with his wife and family at home in Sydney. Totally isolated, with only the horizon line as his reference point, and thoughts as his only companion, Murray is forced to overcome the environmental elements of rain, mud plains, lightning, equipment failure and the ever intrusive salt. The resulting photographs are not just sublime pictures of a remote and surreal location-they are still points that punctuate a journey of the mind and spirit. Fredericks looks into the abyss and finds that, in the midst of nothingness, there is everything.
THE LIGHTKEEPERS - Image
Richard Dreyfuss stars with Emmy and Tony winner Blythe Danner and Oscar nominee Bruce Dern in this warmhearted tale of lost love and second chances. The year is 1912. Vowing to swear off women for good, curmudgeonly Seth Atkins (Dreyfuss) takes refuge tending a remote Cape Cod lighthouse. Then, a mysterious stranger (Tom Wisdom) literally washes up in Seth’s life, with a past full of secrets and a similar aversion to females. But the arrival of two beautiful, spirited women (Danner and Mamie Gummer) will test the men’s resolve – and send all four of them sailing into uncharted romantic waters!
THE NATURE OF EXISTENCE - Walking Shadows
I never thought I could learn about spirituality...and laugh at the same time. This movie is fabulous! I was lucky enough to see it in one of the Film Festivals and everyone in the audience seemed to agree. Director Roger Nygard saves the viewer a lifetime of searching by visiting the most compelling and quirky spiritual philosophers on the planet. It is quite a journey and well worth seeing.

SOUND OF MUSIC: 45th Anniversary - Fox
When Julie Andrews sang "The hills are alive with the sound of music" from an Austrian mountaintop in 1965, the most beloved movie musical was born. To be sure, the adaptation of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's Broadway hit has never been as universally acclaimed as, say, Singin' in the Rain. Critics argue that the songs are saccharine (even the songwriters regretted the line "To sing through the night like a lark who is learning to pray") and that the characters and plot lack the complexity that could make them more interesting. It's not hard to know whom to root for when your choice is between cute kids and Nazis. It doesn't matter. Audiences fell in love with the struggling novice Maria (Andrews), the dashing Captain von Trapp (Christopher Plummer), and, yes, the cute kids, all based on a real-life World War II Austrian family. Such songs as "My Favorite Things," "Do Re Mi," "Climb Every Mountain," and the title tune became part of the 20th century Zeitgeist. In addition, The Sound of Music officially became a cult hit when audiences in London began giving it the Rocky Horror Picture Show treatment, attending showings dressed as their favorite characters and delivering choreographed comments and gestures along with the movie.

THE WORLD AT WAR - A&E
More than 35 years after its initial broadcast, The World at War remains the definitive visual history of World War II. Unsurpassed in depth and scope, its 26 hour-long programs feature an extraordinary collection of newsreel, propaganda, and home-movie footage drawn from the archives of 18 nations, including color close-ups of Adolf Hitler taken by his mistress, that present an unvarnished perspective of the war s pivotal events. Penetrating interviews with eyewitness participants from Hitler s secretary to Alger Hiss to ordinary citizens who stood outside the battle lines add spine-tingling, first-hand accounts to an already unforgettable viewing experience. For decades films were ruined by panning and scanning, hacking the sides of the image and only 4:3 material was shown correctly. Now audiences are accustomed to black bars on 2.35-1 films on wide screen TVs we get the ludicrous irony of 4:3 material being butchered so those with no visual sensibility won't complain when it doesn't fill their 16:9 TVs. The World at War is the greatest documentary series ever produced. It is nothing less than cultural vandalism to restore it only to present it with the 30% or so of the image missing from every shot.
WAR OF THE WORLDS: Final Season - CBS Paramount
An intrepid band of scientists and soldiers battled the Red Planet menace on the small screen in the action-packed syndicated television series War of the Worlds. The show operated on an intriguing premise that paid homage to George Pal's classic 1953 film version--the Martians, presumed dead at the end of the movie, are actually in a state of hibernation, and 30 years later, they have not only revived, but begun to inhabit human bodies in a second attempt to conquer our planet. Now, a team of scientists (Jared Martin) and soldiers (Richard Chaves) must convince humanity to fight against an alien onslaught. Science-fiction series focusing on Dr. Harrison Blackwood's team efforts to seek out the scattered groups of aliens and foil their attempts to trigger world panic and widespread destruction.
OPEN SEASON: 3D - Sony
Growing up can be a confusing journey fraught with difficult choices. Boog (Martin Lawrence) is a domesticated Grizzly Bear who leads a perfectly happy life inside of Park Ranger Beth's (Debra Messing) garage, but a chance meeting with an overly energetic mule deer named Elliot (Ashton Kutcher) quickly changes everything and lands Boog high in the forest a few days before the opening of hunting season. Devoid of even the most basic survival skills, Boog and Elliot stumble through the woods and find themselves at the mercy of every forest animal from skunks to chipmunks as well as an evil hunter named Shaw (Gary Sinise). After unintentionally inciting and endangering an entire forest full of clever animals, Boog and Elliot come to the realization that only by banding together do the forest animals stand a chance of outsmarting the hunters and ensuring their own survival. This first animated film from Sony Pictures Animation takes its inspiration from cartoonist Steve Moore (In the Bleachers) and features animals with human-like intelligence, a vibrant color palate, and skilled animation that makes everything from the wind blowing Boo's fur to the animals' wild trip down the falls simply breathtaking.
