Rosenberg police responded to a major accident on US 59 North and Cottonwood School Road, Sunday, October 25, about 9 p.m. According to Assistant police chief Dallis Warren. the accident involved an 18 wheel truck and a passenger car.
Warren said, “As a result of the accident, the truck overturned and began spilling its load of molten tar on the roadway.” The driver of the 18 wheeler was transported by Fort Bend County EMS to Oak Bend Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released. The passengers in the other vehicle were not injured said Warren.
Details of the cause of the accident are still under investigation. Rosenberg Police and Fire as well as TxDOT crews continue to remain on the scene at press time.
The main lanes of US 59 North remain closed with traffic being diverted to the feeder roads. Cleanup and evaluation of the roadway is being coordinated by TxDOT and is continuing. This work is expected to be completed and the roadway open possibly about 5:00 p.m., Tuesday evening.
