Former BF Terry High School teacher Anthony Scott Gilbert, 38, entered pleas of guilty on the charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, improper relationship between educator and student, aggravated kidnapping, and attempted capital murder of a person under the age of 6, as well as sexual assault of a child.
The savage crime spree occurred in October of 2009. Anthony Gilbert was placed on administrative leave from Terry high school as allegations of an inappropriate teacher/student relationship and sexual assault of a child were investigated. Just a day after his suspension, Gilbert went on a on a rampage in his Sugar Land apartment.
Gilbert plead guilty to the charge of attempted capital murder of a person under the age of six as the result of his stabbing his newborn son several times. Although the baby survived his father’s attack, his injuries were near fatal. Police learned of the attack after Gilbert’s wife showed up at a Sugar Land hospital seeking help for her week old son. She and the couple’s young daughter were not stabbed but had been held hostage by the tyrannical Gilbert for hours.
Gilbert held Sugar Land police at bay for hours but was eventually taken into custody. He too was suffering from injuries, self inflicted knife wounds.
On Monday, Anthony Scott Gilbert accepted a plea deal for the attack on his family and the sexual assault of a 16 year old Terry student. In the 268th District Court, Judge Brady Elliott sentenced Gilbert to 80 years in prison; 50 years for the attempted murder of his baby, 10 years for aggravated assault, 10 years for aggravated kidnapping, 5 years each for the inappropriate teacher/student relationship , and the sexual assault of a child. Although Gilbert faced life in prison with the way the 80 years was sentenced, he will not be eligible for parole for 25 years.
