Game of the week
Dulles Vikings 26 - Stephen F. Austin Bulldogs 16
On a beautiful Friday evening at Mercer Stadium in Sugar Land, the fighting Dulles Vikings faced off in a district showdown against Stephen F. Austin "hungry for a win " Bulldogs. It was Dulles' homecoming and the players did not want to disappoint the alumni. However, coach Dan Schreiber's Bulldogs had a different plan in mind. Word on the street is that Coach Schreiber is doing a lot of good things over at Austin, the only problem is those good things aren't being executed into wins on the football field, just yet.
Stephen F Austin jumped on the scoreboard first with a 28 yard field goal from Nico Carvajal with 4:58 left in the 1st quarter. This seemed to get Dulles' juices flowing. They quickly responded with a very nice drive capped off by a Jerrel Oliver 17 yard touchdown scamper with 2:22 remaining in the 1st quarter. The point after failed. Oliver has terrific genetics. Jerrel is the son of former late 1980's Clements star running back and the University of Colorado Buffaloes O.C. Oliver. O.C. tore up FBISD for many years with his slashing and dashing all over opponents.
In the 2nd quarter, senior leader and QB Zach Lathrop would run one in from 2 yards out and converted a 2 point conversion to senior offensive star Adrian McDaniel. Halftime score was Dulles 13 Austin 3.
In the 2nd half, Austin had its best half of the season so far offensively putting up 14 points. Senior captain and QB Taylor Woods would score on a nifty 1 yard QB sneak with 5:56 left in the 3rd quarter. Bulldog kicker Nico Carvajal, who was perfect on the night, would strike up another point after to make the score Dulles 13 Austin 10.
With 45 seconds to play in the 3rd quarter, Brelynn McNary would give Austin the lead again with a 3 yard touchdown jog that put Austin up 17-13. Dulles would put the clamps on Austin's life vests at this point unleashing their very best homecoming efforts to preserve the win. Sheroid Evans scored early in the 4th quarter with 9:24 left and again the point after failed. Dulles 20 Austin 17. The Vikings would then stop the 'Dogs' on the next drive and QB Zach Lathrop would again march his team down the field. Lathrop took it in himself late in the 4th quarter to doom the Dogs behind nice blocking by the offensive line. The 2 point conversion failed but it wouldn't matter. Dulles would win the game by a 27-16 marging.
Austin QB Taylor Woods had a nice game passing and running the pigskin for Austin. He was 50 percent on his completions and threw for 156 yards and no interceptions. He also ran for 61 yards. Lathrop was equally as good for Dulles, completing almost 53 percent of his passes, throwing for 133 yards, and also rushing for 61 yards. Over half of Lathrop's yards went to passes for Farrel Nnadozie. Dulles running back Jerrel Oliver ran for an awesome 172 yards on 17 carries. Dulles wide receiver Farrel Nnadozie went berzerk and hooked up with Lathrop on 3 passes for a total of 84 yards.
In other FBISD action, the Clements Rangers edged the Travis Tigers 20 -17. Elkins Knights out-marathoned Hightower in a huge win for the mighty Knights. The Cougars from Kempner clipped the Eagles of Willowridge 21-13. The mighty Eagles of Fort Bend Baptist won big 56 -19 over Pope John the 23rd.
