THE WOUNDED PLATOON - PBS
Since the Iraq War began, soldier arrests in the city of Colorado Springs have tripled. At least thirty-six servicemen based at the nearby Army post of Fort Carson have committed suicide. And fourteen Fort Carson soldiers have been charged or convicted in at least eleven killings. Many of the most violent crimes involved men who had served in the same battalion in Iraq. Three of them came from a single platoon of infantrymen. Frontline tells the dark tale of the men of Third Platoon, Charlie Company, 1st battalion of the 506th infantry; and how the war followed them home.
TRIAGE - NEM

WATER LIFE: Blu-ray - Questar
Water Life captures extraordinary locations and intimate animal behavior never before seen on film. Two years in the making, this groundbreaking series takes viewers on an unprecedented visual journey to aquatic ecosystems on five continents to reveal how water shapes and sculpts the landscape and provides food and refuge for an astonishing array of species. This epic series tells water's story as never before to engage viewers in vital discussions about how water must be conserved and preserved.
ROME: Power & Glory - Questar
I love documentaries on ancient empires and already have a number on Rome. This far surpasses them all. Like most I have seen, it is made for a wide audience, but this one does offer a wonderful glimpse into this civilization that still impacts so much of our current world. Each disc also has lots of extras as well as some have virtual recreations. I will enjoy watching this for years. I have seen a number of cheesy documentaries on Rome and this one is wonderful - and not cheesy, either! It is narrated by Peter Coyote.
DRAGNET: Season Two - Shout Factory
This is the city: Los Angeles. It is 1968, and Sergeant Joe Friday (Jack Webb) and Officer Bill Gannon (Harry Morgan) are hitting the streets once again in the name of law and order, to protect and to serve. The community landscape is littered daily by juvenile delinquency, drug abuse, student dissidence and con-artistry but, just like that, it can all be brought to a screeching halt when Friday and Gannon appear on the scene. Ladies and gentlemen, the stories you are about to see are true. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent. This is Dragnet 1968. Originally conceived as a radio program and then a popular 1950s television series, the Dragnet series from 1967 1970 featured the visionary cop drama of creator Jack Webb in its prime: paving the way for the hit shows Adam-12 and Emergency!
RHODA: Season Three - Shout Factory
Rhoda returns with the third hysterical season on DVD, beautifully re-mastered from new high-definition transfers! With her marriage to Joe coming to an end, Rhoda Morgenstern once again finds herself single and her life filled with hilarious dating adventures reminiscent of her days in Minneapolis. Complete with spontaneous trips around the world, dates with vibrant lounge singers and mistaken arrests, this 24-episode third season is a brilliant reminder of why Rhoda remains one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time.

TEMPLE GRANDIN - HBO
It doesn't take long to see that Temple Grandin, the main character in this eponymous HBO movie, is, well, different--she (Claire Danes, who plays her) tells us before the credits start that she's "not like other people." But "different" is not "less." Indeed, Grandin, who is now in her 60s, has accomplished a good deal more than a great many "normal" folks, let alone others afflicted with the autism that Grandin overcame on her way to earning a doctorate and becoming a bestselling author and a pioneer in the humane treatment of livestock. It wasn't easy. The doctor who diagnosed her at age 4 said she'd never talk and would have to be institutionalized. Only through the dogged efforts of her mother (Julia Ormond), who was told that "lack of bonding" with her child might have caused the autism, did Grandin learn to speak; to go to high school, college, and grad school; and to become a highly productive scientist, enduring the cruel taunts of her classmates and the resistance of many of the adults in her life (most of whom are shown as either narrow-minded prigs or macho, chauvinist jerks). Her lack of social skills and sometimes violent reactions to the over stimulation in her environment made it tough to fit in, to say the least. Danes, who is in nearly every scene of director Mick Jackson's film, is remarkable, embodying Grandin's various idiosyncrasies without resorting to caricature. A brilliant film and an even more brilliant performance.
