SHREK FOREVER AFTER
The latest installment of the series finds Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and Puss all working together on another adventure. The film opens with Shrek living happily ever after with Fiona, their kids and Donkey in their village. In the land Far Away, Shrek has turned into a tourist attractions for the human folks and he doesn't like it. He wishes he could return to the past when he could scare the local folks. He is given the opportunity by Rumpelstiltskin to go back in time for one day - and he jumps at the chance - only there is more to the deal than he realizes!
The film is clearly modeled after It's a Wonderful Life and yet it is unbelievably fresh. It doesn't make a difference whether you or your kids are familiar with the first three films in the series - everything begins anew in this one. The references to pop-culture, the one liners and the presentation of the characters are sure to make even the biggest of ogres in the crowd smile and chuckle. The adults will enjoy it, but the kids are gonna love it. Get out and see it before its gone!

DAVID CROSS: Bigger and Blackerer
David Cross's first comedy special in six years comes under the
heading of preaching to the choir. Regardless of your religious
preference, you may not be amused by Cross's left(ist) jabs at all you
likely hold sacred. Speaking of the Devil, he states, "I can't be
Catholic because I don't believe in monsters." He also wonders just
how humble a carpenter Jesus was if he truly believed he was the Son
of God. Also coming in for Cross's contempt is the hippie ethos as
exemplified by a product line called If You Care. Not for Cross
traditional punch-line fare or the usual mainstream movie and TV
references. Not for the faint of heart, but without a doubt for those
with a thick skin, David Cross is sure to please!
Dwizzle Dee: Colors, Sizes, Songs & Imagination is the first in a new
educational DVD series that features muppet-like puppets to teach
preschoolers basic skills. Miss Ashley is a human-puppet who teaches
her small class of three `monster-like', hairy puppets about colors,
comparative sizes, shapes, simple counting, and more in a simulated
classroom setting. The class also heads outside to explore the world
of nature, and even delves into some very simple science lessons
(learning about bees, and pretending to be bees for example.) There is
plenty of reinforcement throughout the disc, with a very strong
emphasis on the primary colors (red, blue, and yellow.) The DVD has a
30-minute running time, and also comes with an option that lets you
watch the song segments along with sing-along subtitling.

THE STRANGER - Anchor Bay
The Stranger is a throwback to home video's 1980s VHS heyday, when athletes and martial artists like Jeff Speakman and Thomas Ian Griffith were fodder for low-budget, direct-to-video action films produced to keep the product pipeline flowing. But six-time WWF champion Steve Austin demonstrates he is anything but Expendable in this Bourne knockoff, as an amnesiac who is wanted by the FBI and the Russian mob. THAT GIRL: Season 1 - 5 - Shout Factory
Marlo Thomas' groundbreaking character, Ann Marie, opened the door for a new generation of independent women on TV who just might make it after all. Ann was not a wife, mother, daughter, girlfriend, ditzy neighbor, sidekick, or fantasy object. She was something new and contemporary, an aspiring actress who leaves home to pursue her career in New York City. In the inaugural season, she has a kinda kooky neighbor and Rhoda-antecedent, Judy (Bonnie Scott). And she has a boyfriend, magazine writer Donald Hollinger (Ted Bessell), whom she meets in the first aired episode. Ann and Donald are one of TV's great comedy teams. They have a delightful Barefoot in the Park-like chemistry, with Ann the vivacious, more free-spirited one, and Donald the more practical one. One of their best episodes is Anatomy of a Blunder, in which Donald suffers every disaster and indignity en route to meet Ann's father for the first time. Thomas was honored with a Golden Globe award for the first season, and the series established her as "talented, unusual, a bright new face." Shout Factory has all five seasons of the brilliant show available.
SCTV: Season 1 - 4 - Shout Factory
While it never reached the ratings heights or pop culture cachet of Saturday Night Live, SCTV did garner critical buzz and a devoted cult following. As with the Python boys, the ensemble members, and the characters they created to populate the fictional Melonville TV network, are revered in hipper comedy circles. In this respect, SCTV is Letterman to SNL's Leno. The essential first season five-disc set collects the initial nine episodes of the series' Network 90 incarnation, which brightened NBC's Friday late-night lineup in 1981. While original cast member Harold Ramis had since left the show, and Martin Short would join the following year, John Candy, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Rick Moranis, Catherine O'Hara, and Dave Thomas were SCTV's definitive ensemble. The inaugural episodes are comprised mostly of the golden classics. All four seasons are must owns for any fan of groundbreaking comedy that often eludes television shows today.
MLB BLOOPERS: Baseball's Best Blunders - Shout Factory
For more than a century, Major League Baseball ballparks have been a canvas for athletic artistry at its finest: displays of speed, skill and incredible feats. If that is what you re looking for, you have come to the wrong place. Because MLB Bloopers: Baseballs Best Blunders features the ultimate collection of the National Pastime at its sidesplitting funniest. You will see the finest athletes in the game brought to their knees by gravity, brain locks, killer kittens and anything else that can disrupt the symmetry of the game. Watch players attempting to perfect the art of tarp-sliding, pie-throwing and acting. The greatest characters in the game are featured.
SIMON & SIMON: Season Four - Shout Factory
The formula of success certainly applies to Simon & Simon in that each episode is intelligently written and brilliantly performed. Season Four of Simon & Simon is certainly the peak of the series, when Rick and A.J. were truly magical, and the San Diego detectives had a fan base nearly as avid as Magnum P.I. With the addition of Tim Reid as Det. Downtown Brown in Season Three, all the elements for a first-class show were in place, and Season Four celebrated with a season premiere on location in Paris! More of the mysterious back story of the boys' father, Jack Simon, an O.S.S. operative in WWII, is introduced, in flashback (Jameson Parker plays dual roles). A wonderfully entertaining show that is a must own for any fan of excellent television.
EXTRAORDINARY MEASURES: Blu-ray - Sony
Harrison Ford plays Dr. Robert Stonehill, a fringe researcher whose findings just might help keep alive the two children of John Crowley, played with heart by Brendan Fraser. Extraordinary Measures is based on a true story, one chronicled in the gripping book The Cure: How a Father Raised $100 Million--and Bucked the Medical Establishment--in a Quest to Save His Children, by Wall Street Journal reporter Geeta Anand. The cast is excellent, with Ford tamping down his occasional urge to vamp for the camera, and Fraser grounded in his first true adult role.
MARCUS WELBY, MD: Season One - Shout Factory
One of the most beloved TV series of its time, this Emmy winner and Top Ten series in its inaugural season anticipated The Streets of San Francisco with the generation-bridging mentor-student relationship between straight-talking but compassionate general practitioner Marcus Welby (Robert Young) and aspiring neurologist Steven Kiley (James Brolin). Kiley may ride a cool motorcycle, but in a nice twist, he is more tradition-bound and by the book than Welby. In 1969, TV was getting hip with such youth-oriented series as The Mod Squad, Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, and The Music Scene. The then-62-year-old Robert Young, a boomer TV icon as Jim Anderson on Father Knows Best, was definitely part of the over-30 crowd, but viewers on either side of the generation gap could absolutely trust him. In its first season, the series tackled such hot-button issues as abortion, substance abuse, and autism. No matter what life or medical crisis befell his patients, Welby responded in a reassuring, nonjudgmental manner.
THE FACTS OF LIFE: Season Four - Shout Factory
The Facts Of Life Season Four contains all 24 Original Episodes of the show. In the final season at the all girls school, Blair (Lisa Whelchel), Tootie (Kim Fields), Natalie (Mindy Cohn) and Jo (Nancy McKeon), are back under the guiding hand of their housemother and dietitian, Mrs. Garrett (Charlotte Rae), at the Eastland Academy for Girls. Season Four highlights include a marriage proposal for Mrs. Garrett, an eye-opening lesson in drunk driving for the girls, and Blair and Jo heading off to college! Dishing out quick-witted humor and big laughs, the girls literally grew up right in front of millions of viewers each week.
KATHY GRIFFIN: She'll Cut a Bitch - Shout Factory
Kathy Griffin was made for these times. In our celebrity-obsessed, Page Six, TMZ, reality show culture, she is our Dante, dishing and dissing on celebrities, the famous and infamous. "Here's the dirt," she promises at the beginning of this Emmy-nominated standup special, and the diva of the D-list delivers. Cher, with whom Griffin spends an unforgettable birthday at her Malibu mansion, comes off grandly, as do Rosie O'Donnell, Betty White, Don Rickles, and Tracy Morgan. Not so much the Jonas brothers, or perhaps the unsuspecting James Gandolfini.
