Missouri City police were called to a home in the Bolton Estates subdivision to investigate a residential burglary that resulted in the death of an intruder.
Monday afternoon, shortly after 1pm,. Missouri City police were called to a home in the 900 block of Bolton Drive after a resident reported shooting a man who had kicked his back door. According to police detective Russell Terry, when officers arrived on the scene they met the homeowner who said he had shot a man after he kicked in his back door and entered his home. As the facts unfolded police learned that the homeowner heard a knock at the back door, then a crashing sound when the intruding burglar kicked in the back door, entering the home.
Terry said the homeowner retrieved a weapon before confronting the intruder, who was already in his home. When the homeowner saw the intruding burglar, he realized the burglar was armed with a handgun. Terry said the homeowner was in fear of his life and shot the armed intruder one time.
The intruder, Anthony Joseph Stevens Jr., 26, of Houston died at the scene. The homeowner was not physically injured.
A second suspect, who remained out front of the residence in a getaway car, is believed to have fled the scene when he heard the gunshot. That suspect was later identified as Anray Lasard Woodard Jr., 24, of Houston. He was caught and taken into custody when he wrecked his car after a brief pursuit with Houston police.
