The Mexican American School Board Members Association (MASBA) conducted its election of officers and board members at its annual business meeting held Feb. 25 in San Antonio during the MASBA Annual Conference and Expo.
As part of the election process, Stafford Municipal School District School Board Trustee and Board Secretary Xavier Herrera was elected to the MASBA Region 3 position. Herrera replaces Dr. Viola M. Garcia, president, Aldine ISD and longtime MASBA board officer.
“I am thankful to Dr. Garcia for her service to Region 3 and hope to continue the great work conducted,” Herrera said. “Today’s election also serves historically as the first time a member of the Stafford Municipal School District Board of Trustees has served on the MASBA Board of Directors.
“Xavier Herrera brings a wealth of knowledge and experience both professionally and civically and we are pleased with the election results and look forward to working with him,” said Kurt Hixson, MASBA communications director.
