
Cora Lee Kerr, a long time Lubbock Proud resident, died Monday, July 20, 2009 in Roswell, Georgia. At her side was her husband of 35 years, Command Sergeant-Major Mike Kerr and daughters Tina Gaddy Taliaferro of Roswell, Georgia and Debbie Gaddy Marcell of Sugar Land, Texas.
Both the Visitation Friday, July 24th from 5:00-6:00 pm, and the funeral Saturday, July 25th at 1:00 pm, followed by Graveside services, were at Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 19th Street, Lubbock Texas, The funeral was officiated by David Wilson, Cora’s long time and favorite
Pastor from her home church, Lubbock’s Southcrest Baptist Church.
Cora Lee Boozer was born in Honey Grove Texas April 1, 1927 to Nina Gertrude and Richard Franklin Boozer. The family later moved to Hale Center and then to Lubbock in 1942. In 1941, Cora was the Hale Center Schools Spelling Bee Champion.
She had two sisters, Mary Morrison of Hobbs, New Mexico, who died in 2007 and surviving sister Betty Holcombe of Lubbock. Cora is also survived by her husband, Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Mike Kerr, and by two daughters (who were born and raised in Lubbock) and sons- in-law,
Debra Ann Gaddy Marcell (Marvin) of Sugar Land, Texas and Tina Gaddy Taliaferro (Kim), of Roswell, Georgia.
Her passion was encouraging the success of her daughters and her grandchildren Molly Morris Cooper of Houston, Tyler Taliafero, a student at Univ of Alabama-Tuscaloosa, AL, Dustin Taliaferro, a student at Samford University in Birmingham, AL, and Elizabeth Marcell Goertz of Allen
Texas. To them she was “Meme” and one very loving person they knew who was always looking out for them.
Cora Lee Kerr had a successful career with Southwestern Bell/AT&T and she was a tireless volunteer, supporting the works of the Telephone Pioneers. Cora and her husband Mike lived virtually their entire marriage in Lubbock as notable hosts to their many neighbors, friends and
family, before moving to Georgia less than a year ago.
Cora Lee Kerr, a special life for which we thank God. Our own lives are better because of our time with her.
