FBI - FBI ponies up $15K for “POINT BLANK BANDIT”

In a media release identifying the man they are looking for as a HOSTAGE-TAKING BANK ROBBER, the FBI is asking for the public’s help before he commits his fourth bank robbery.

The “Point Blank Bandit,” is a hostage-taking bank robber who committed his third area robbery on October 1, at Capital One Bank, 870 South Mason near Katy. “Point Blank Bandit” is also believed to be responsible for the September 10 robbery of the Comerica Bank at 1503 Eldridge Parkway, Houston, and the September 23 robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank at 3747 Westheimer in Houston.

FBI Special Agent Patricia Villafranca said, “In each robbery, “Point Blank Bandit” placed a semi-automatic handgun directly against the head or the body of a bank employee, and used that employee as a hostage in order to force other employees to comply with his demands.”

During the October 1 robbery in Katy, “Point Blank Bandit” entered the bank at about 1:30 p.m., grabbed a bank employee by the arm and placed a black semi-automatic handgun directly to the employee’s back. He then forced the employee to the teller counter, where he demanded money from all open tellers. “Point Blank Bandit” threatened to start shooting if anyone called the police. As their fellow employee was held hostage, the other tellers emptied their cash drawers into a black bag provided by the robber. He then fled the bank on foot.

“Point Blank Bandit” is described as a Hispanic male, 25-35 years old, 5’11” to 6’00” tall, 200 to 250 pounds, with a clean shaven face, and a shaved head. He was wearing clothing that matches the description of clothing worn in the other two robberies; a pale yellow or cream colored short-sleeved dress shirt, dark slacks, and sunglasses. Witnesses interviewed after the September 10 robbery described a burn scar on his left wrist.

His reckless disregard for safety has prompted the FBI to offer a $15,000 reward for information leading to his arrest and conviction.

Anyone with information about any of these cases is urged to call the FBI Houston office at 713-693-5000.

A 51 year old Fresno man was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in late June and is now headed to prison for 12 years.

Donald Gill Delauder was sentenced to 12 years in prison on June 27, 2008 after a jury found him guilty of shooting a woman in the back with a shotgun in December of 2006.

Delauder’s victim, Rayzale White, had been living with him for several months before the attack according to prosecutor Jill Stotts. According to testimony, both White and Delauder had been drinking that night with friends at separate locations. “White returned home first and watched television in bed. Delauder arrived later and began calling out to White, who ignored him. When she finally looked up, Delauder was standing in the doorway of the bedroom holding a 12 gauge shotgun. Delauder then shot White in the back stating, “you will see how demonic I am!” said Stotts. After being shot, White fled the home, crawled under a fence, and walked to a nearby gas station where she called 911. White was able to describe the home, the car that the defendant drove and tell authorities his name was “Donald” before going into shock.

Sheriff’s deputies located Donald Delauder asleep in a chair in the house. Stotts said, “Evidence presented at trial revealed that authorities found blood on the bed and the shotgun at the foot of the chair where Delauder was sleeping.” The victim was treated at a hospital and today still has shotgun pellets lodged in her upper torso.

Delauder’s defense was that he has had a brain injury and frequent alcohol-related blackouts caused by years of intoxication. Delauder claimed he did not remember the night of the shooting.

Sheriff issues scam warning

After a “Secret Shopper Scam” surfaced, sheriff issues warning.

According to Terriann Carlson, letters are being sent to citizens that claim to offer employment as a “Secret Shopper” for market research. She said, “These letters are a scam and a clever version of an old scam, commonly known as a Nigerian 419 Scam. The documents, which appear to be legitimate, actually convince the victim to cash checks or money orders for amounts much greater than the intended services and then forward the balance to another party.

Although Nigerian 419 Scams have been around for some time and have received ample amounts of media attention, this new twist seems to be convincing a lot of people that it is a legitimate business offer.”
