Today’s Vision Sugar Land
Dedicated Staff - Devoted to Patient Care

By Donna Arnold

Today’s Vision Sugar Land is one of the most highly regarded optometric practices in Fort Bend County. Dr. Thomas P. Arnold established the office in 1992. In 1997 Dr. Melissa C. Moeller became a partner and Dr. Jocelyn Horiszny joined the group in 2000. The Doctors of Today’s Vision Sugar Land proudly credit their success to their comprehensive team approach to patient care “As doctors we recognize each patient’s individualized needs and have created a team to meet those needs, from our certified opticians to insurance consultation we strive to provide professional care at every level.” says Dr. Arnold.

“Over half of our full-time staff members have worked with us for ten years or more. Our team’s longevity offers our patients continuity of care and the confidence that their vision care is being provided by a knowledgeable well trained staff,” says Arnold. Dr. Arnold relates that 60% of their patients are returning patients and 30% come from patient recommendations and referrals. “We believe that our patients keep coming back because we treat them fairly and make a commitment to give each patient quality eye care. They put their trust in us and it is a privilege to serve each of them.” says Dr. Arnold.

Patrick Deiss, Today’s Vision Optical Manager and ABO Certified Optician has worked with the team for 15 years. “As an optician it is important to work with doctors that converse well with the patient. The accuracy of an eye examination and the resulting prescription relies on our doctors’ expertise and their ability to communicate. All of our doctors are highly qualified,” says Deiss. After a patient completes an eye exam the professional optical staff can help them select a designer frame from the extensive collection or choose frame and lenses from our value collection. “We feature over 500 frames in a wide price range from, top of the line designers to more economical pairs; we can help patients find what works best for them. Often the patient can have their new glasses the same day.” concludes Patrick. In addition, Today’s Vision inventories thousands of contact lenses. This offers many patients reliable, same day prescription service and in many cases emergency contact lens replacement.

The Today’s Vision team has recently relocated their office. The new facility is located just a few doors away from the original location in First Colony Commons at Williams Trace and Highway 59. Dr. Moeller states, “We are committed to providing our patients with quality service. We have a dedicated staff and now we have a state of the art office to complement our care.”

“Dr. Arnold continues to keep us at the forefront of vision care technological advances.” says Moeller. “An annual eye exam is important to help the patient see better, but what patients don’t often realize is that an annual exam can detect cancer, heart disease, hypertension, diabetes and other serious health conditions. That is why we feel it is important to offer our patients the newest equipment possible to preserve their vision and monitor their health. With the introduction of the OptomapÆ Retinal Exam our patients have the opportunity to utilize the latest technology.” states Arnold.

The Optomap takes just minutes to perform, it is fast, painless and comfortable for patients. It is especially valuable because it creates a computer-generated image of the retina without pupil dilation or eye drops. Dr. Arnold states that through his use of the procedure, he has diagnosed the initial signs of retinal cancer, early signs of macular degeneration and easily monitors diabetic retinopathy. “It is especially important for our patients with diabetes to have regular eye examinations. An exam that includes an Optomap provides our patients with computerized images for a comparative baseline for future treatment.” He also points out that in the event a patient moves out of the area, they can supply them with a disc containing the annual images.

The Doctors of Today’s Vision, Sugar Land continue to specialize in the treatment of a variety of conditions effecting the eye, including injuries, infections, allergies, and dry eye. Other areas of specialization include the treatment of Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS), custom contact lens fit and the co-management of LASIK, cataract and other eye related surgical procedures. “We continue to provide a wide range of treatment options for patients of all ages, including pediatric care.” says Dr. Arnold.

Dr. Melissa Moeller specializes in pediatric vision care with an expertise on conditions affecting children, such as amblyopia. “In people under 20, amblyopia causes more vision loss than trauma and all other ocular diseases combined. Early diagnosis increases the chance for a complete recovery. Children don’t know to complain which is why it is important to get them checked.” says Dr. Moeller.

“We love living and practicing in Sugar Land,” says Dr. Arnold. “I have enjoyed watching the city grow and growing with it.” He goes on to say, “My grandparents owned a ranch in Sugar Land when I was growing up.” Dr. Arnold is a native of Houston, a graduate of Westchester High School; Drs. Moeller and Horiszny are also Texas natives. Dr. Moeller is from the Dallas area and Dr. Horiszny grew up in Sugar Land and is a graduate of Dulles High School; all of the doctors are graduates from the University of Houston College of Optometry.

The doctors and staff of Today’s Vision are active members in the community. Today’s Vision Sugar Land has sponsored over 40 youth sports teams, some of the teams coached by Today’s Vision Staff members. In 2007, the Fort Bend Optimist Club recognized Dr. Arnold for his Outstanding Commitment and Contribution to the Youth of The Community. In addition, he and his dedicated staff have participated in several medical mission trips to Guatemala and Mexico, providing eye exams and glasses to local inhabitants who do not have access to vision care.

Since 1997, Dr. Arnold has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Laser Eye Institute of Houston, the Southwest’s largest independent laser vision correction facility. Dr. Arnold was also a research associate at The University of Texas Medical School working on the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study.

Dr. Moeller’s honors include the Vistakon Award of Excellence in Contact Lenses and the Clinical Letters of Excellence from the University of Houston Faculty in Pediatrics and Primary Care. Dr. Horiszny’s honors include a double externship with an emphasis on Retinal Pathology at the Hermann Eye Center in Houston.
