Book Review of Sugar Creek author
I don’t normally recommend books to people because everyone has their own “take” on what is good and what is not so good. But this book, penned by Sugar Creek resident, Jay Woodard, is a class act. The book is titled “July 4 And the 56 Signers of the Declaration
of Independence.”
Now, with that title you would probably think it was a boring account of the guys who made history signing the original document. If that’s what you think—you are wrong—it is anything but boring and not the typical history that we were exposed to in school.
The book is indeed filled with history but Jay has taken the liberty to add a modern slant, personal photos and accounts of his quest to find the real people involved in the historical signing and an even more interesting addition.
The book includes a lot of local photos of men, most from the Sugar Land area, who graciously agreed to pose as signers. Jay found guys who had similar profiles to the original signers in order to take a look at what those old guys in wigs just might have looked
like today serving in Congress. Cute touch.

I have to say the profile doesn’t do the book justice. I think it is the personal touches that make this book so special and so absolutely fascinating. Jay also includes his collection of historical documents signed by the signers, which adds a closer look at these men and their
lives, both professionally and personally.
