I’m voting (I guess).....Several people have called me to ask me who I favor for the elections on May 9.

I’ve had to tell them, particularly as concerns Fort Bend ISD, I don’t like anyone.

In Fort Bend ISD, trustees run in positions dictated by where they live, but anyone can vote on all of them.

Incumbent Sonal Bhuchar is very smart and had been a so-so president of the board. However, she has been a lackey of Superintendent Tim Jenney.

Her opponent, Carlos Cain, has been angry with the Central Appraisal Board for several years. He ought to run for that. Oh, wait, that is an appointed position and a campaign to be appointed would probably be futile as the taxing entities select CAD board members that can be counted on to keep the assessments up so they (the various boards) won’t have to go up on the taxes.

In the other position, we have politician Marilyn Glover, who has no children in school, trying to win the election. Marilyn Glover is a former county political party chairman, has worked for politicians, run for office, and currently is a precinct chair in her political party. She doesn’t go to many of those meetings either.

Her opponent, Bruce Albright, is married to a school teacher. I’ve always had a problem with that.

Their opponent, Rodrigo Carreon, is a community activist who has a penchant of appearing before various boards to complain about something.

While I admire his pluck in doing so, I’ve found he usually speaks his complaint before the wrong board. For example, he will go to commissioners court to complain about the school district, and then he’ll go to the school district to complain about roads!

If forced to vote, and yes, I always force myself to vote, I would pick Sonal Bhuchar and Marilyn Glover.

Sonal Bhuchar because I suppose one can apply the dictum that a board should hire professional people, then take their advice. So her falling in line behind Superintendent Jenney should be an assest instead of a liability. And Marilyn Glover because she has promised me she will be an activist for minority students. Not that anyone in the school district is discriminating against minority students, but I think in this year of Barack Obama, we should have at least one African American board member.

I’m also supporting the incumbents in Missouri City (Barbara Gibson) and Sugar Land (Don Smithers). The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know.

Can you see that I’m not very excited about the elections this year?

To the woodshed....More than one loyal reader has complained that I am giving homeowner associations short shift.

Let me make this completely clear. HOAs are an absolute necessary component of a suburban lifestyle. In fact, I would dare say they are one of the major reasons the suburbs are such a pleasant place in which to live.

The examples I have given you earlier are simply to emphasize that we much be very careful to not act like jack-booted Nazi in dealing with neighborhood deed restrictions.

Another complaint....I also got a call from someone who shall remain nameless. He was mad because he felt our coverage of the TEA party was skimpy.

We ran a front page picture. What more did he want?

I compare the TEA party to Swine Flu.

I felt like the TEA party was just so much political hype undertaken by a political party, although not openly, and whipped into a frenzy by Faux News.

The Swine Flu appears to be a way for TamiFlu, masks, and anti-bacterial soap to gross huge profits.
