A Fresno woman was killed in a traffic accident early last Wednesday morning in Sugar Land.
Sugar Land police were called to a traffic accident in the 12600 block of State Highway 6 just north of US 90A at Oyster Creek. Police spokesperson, Doug Adolph, said the victim, Yolanda Bloom, 38, was traveling north on Highway 6 at what was reported to be too fast for the road conditions.
As she traveled north on 90A adjacent to Oyster Creek, her vehicle collided with another. As a result of that impact, Bloom’s car came to rest partially submerged in the creek.
Responding Sugar Land officers ran into the water to try and extricate Ms. Bloom. They were not able to get a pulse nor could they extract her from her car. Shortly thereafter, officers were forced to get out of the water as the frigid weather conditions that night were posing too much of a risk for them as well.
According to police speed, wet weather conditions, and alcohol are all believed to be a contributing factors to the accident. The car Bloom hit was only slightly damaged and the driver was not seriously injured. That driver was able to provide police with a statement as to how the accident happened.
Ms. Bloom was a resident of Fresno who, according to county records, was active in her community and had several business enterprises.
