An ethical dilemma..... In this political season, we are hearing all sorts of rumors about first one candidate and then the other. Accusations involving everything from lack of fiduciary responsibility to personal events from divorces to paternity of children. The question is often when to draw the line. 

At the Star we investigate every accusation we receive. And if we can’t find a paper trail, a court proceeding, or some document to prove the accusation, then we don’t publish it. However, we feel we have an ethical responsibility to inform our readers about things we can prove in most cases.

But sometimes the question involves minor children, or even young adults. Should we not tell about their parents for fear of embarrassing the children? Or are some of these personal things indicative of how someone might treat their office in the future and our lack of telling about it causes that person to get elected in a tight race?

Finally..... I hope the latest finding of the bankruptcy court about Will Perry and David Wallace will finally lay to rest all the bad publicity Wallace has been the victim of for the past few years. When Wallace and  Costa Bajjali were in business with Will Perry, they noticed that he went to the movies instead of working; he made some crazy investments without their approval; and he decided that he was smarter than everyone else. When Wallace and Bajjali wanted out, Perry wasn’t content to let them go on down the road and even try to rescue some of his bad decisions, he decided that he would ruin them personally and financially. 

Then when it looked like they were going to win a judgment against him, he jumped up and declared bankruptcy even though he received almost $30,000 per month from a trust fund set up by his father, Bob Perry, the well known home builder. Perry thought he could discharge any sure-to-come debt by declaring bankruptcy.

Last week, the bankruptcy judge in the case changed all that by awarding Wallace and Bajjali over $4 million and ruled it can’t be discharged by the bankruptcy. So now Perry’s trust fund is on the hook for the entire amount. I’m sure the men will take a payout, but according to the court documents, interest will accrue on the amount until final payment. 

Perry attempted to ruin Dave Wallace and in a way he did put Dave’s political aspirations on hold for a long time. But now the long nightmare is over and Wallace and his family can hold their heads up high, although the Wallaces did always act with grace and style. 

I have a copy of the judge’s memorandum and will email it to you if you desire. Words cannot describe some of the things the judge said about Perry’s testimony.
